About me:

I was born and educated in Oxfordshire in England, and did a B.Sc. in Genetics at the University of Edinburgh. I was lucky enough to be able to do my Honours thesis with the group that cloned Dolly the sheep. (I was doing Northern blots of transferrin RNA from sheep mammary cells), and that led me to do my Masters and PhD with the group that cloned Starbucks the bull at the CRRA (Centre de recherche en réproduction animale) in Sainte Hyacinthe in Quebec. My PhD was on the changes in oocytes as they mature to become ready for fertilisation, looking mainly at cell cycle control, nuclear-cytoplasmic, and cell-cell communication, and how they affect protein synthesis in the egg. This mostly involved cell culture, cell microsurgery and protein gels. After working as a research assistant (doing radioimmunoassays on steroidogenesiss in cattle), I stayed home with my kids for a few years, before starting teaching Biology at Champlain College Saint Lambert. I completed a Masters in College Education, and am engaged in research projects that focus on drawing, writing, communicating and fostering creativity in science education. I love the outdoors, animals, talking, books, being a mum, and singing Broadway (in order of acquisition of those loves).
