(UN)skilled Police officers

In previous years over 11,000 international police officers have been deployed in 18 United Nations peace operations. These officers have come from 100 countries. Over a period of time these officers have seen work such as traditional monitoring responsibilities and have started to see more of a broad array of police development and sector reform tasks. The issue with this is that the structures, resources and skill sets of international police do not match their mandates.

More Trouble for Patrick Kane

If you haven’t already, “Kaner” is being accused of rape by woman near his home town of Buffalo, New York. The woman alleges that the Chicago Blackhawks forward met her in a bar and then took her to his home. The unnamed woman then left Patrick Kane’s home and went straight to the hospital with a friend.

 

Earlier this week, reports came out that the DNA test results came back negative. That means no trace of Kane’s DNA was found in the woman’s genital area. However, this does not confirm his innocence.

 

 

Pacification in Brazil

 

Drug traffickers have been in control over the favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the past several years. However, just recently, the government has finally decided to take control over this and has sent the city’s police to get rid of all of these drug traffickers. The purpose of this is to help clean up the favelas because they have been going downhill for quite a long time now.

Drones, a possibility of a rise in security... or a potential danger?

According to an article from the New York Times by Somini Sengupta on February 15th, 2013, drones are becoming more and more used for law enforcement. However, many people are very uncomfortable with these new devices. Some have suspicions that they are being used by the government for surveillance purposes. Even though technologies used to capture video footage exists now like cameras for catching speeders.

Effects of Crime on Law Enforcement Officials and Victims

    The importance of victimization in the criminal justice system is shown in all stages throughout the legal process. Also, the trauma of being a victim is seen and understood by anyone who has gone through a difficult experience. To myself and other criminal justice majors, this victimization does not only affect the innocent citizens involved in a crime, but police officers and other law enforcement officials who have to deal with the traumatic effects coming from their jobs. Everyday, officers put their lives in danger to protect citizens.
