Blog Film Review
The film Somewhere Between was a movie that could play with your emotions. If you are someone that was adopted as a kid this film could make you feel like there is hope to find your birth mother and father. These four girls were each abandoned but eventually adopted by an American family. All four of these girls are confident in themselves even know they are different from their adoptive parents. Their parents have raised them to be confident in them to know yes they look different but that doesn’t matter to them. They love them just as much. How the Chinese just can get up and leave their children in a village or on the side of a road is just mind blowing. How any adult could carry a baby for 9 months then just decide that they can’t keep him or her is beyond me. We need to come together as a country and figure out how to stop this from happening.
The fact that Chinese can just leave their children on the side of the road is absurd. I know that the One-child Policy is enforced but they should not leave their kids just sitting there for someone else to take and care for. In the film they state, “All four were adopted from China because all four had birth parents who could not keep them, due to personal circumstances colliding with China's "One Child Policy".” From what the movie said Chinas One child Policy is not always enforced. One of the families wanted to have a boy but didn’t so they kept trying to have one but didn’t get one until three more girls were born. They kept all the other children and just sent the one girl off. This girl was in the long run better off financially but was destroyed by the fact her own family gave her up. These girls speculate about why they were given up, suspecting their biological families were poor. These girls are incredibly strong for dealing with something like this. Not many people can deal with something of this caliber. Chinese people need to figure a way where they can put the kids up for adoption but can see them. We need to find a way to fix this issue.
