In the article “ China’s appetite pushes fisheries to the brink” it talks about fisheries and how they are affecting the oceans”. Decades ago, the oceans were crawling with billions  of sea creatures, there was an abundance of everything, it was a fisherman's dream. But these days, fishermen's nets are coming up empty. Overfishing has caused many fisheries to collapse and fully exploit their resources. China, with over 1 billion inhabitants, is a major market place for seafood. But their immense seafood demande and overexploitation of resources has had an effect of the whole world oceans. With their big boats and non- severe fishing laws, it is easy for them to catch as much as they desire, going out further and further in to the waters when closer waters are lacking in fish. Andrew Jacobs, the author, explains how their government is more concerned with its populations food security and employment, than the impact they are causing to the rest of the world. Jacob also states China is not slowing down and is doing what it can to get as much seafood for their population and exportation as possible.

In my opinion, this needs to stop. We need to find a less harmful way to get these fish. Possibly enforcing more strict laws, because if things continue the way they are, the impact on the oceans will be much worse and very destructive. We need to think more about our planet and less about our personal desires and money.
