Trump's reaction on Las Vegas shooting

In this article, Donald Trump talks about gun control, following the mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas. Generally, he’s in opposition with gun control but he supports that banning assault rifles is good and that the time span of getting your gun should be lengthened. Trump has the opinion that the answer to mass shootings is that citizens should have more guns. Easy targets like schools and churches would be able to defend if the scholars and religious would have guns on them to defend themselves in case of a shooting (according to Trump). One has to remember that the NRA supported Trump during the presidential campaign by funding him 30 million dollars. Trump also believes that if Clinton was president, gun control would be imposed and taken more seriously. Taken directly from the article “This massacre is … a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theatre, or in a nightclub.”

The purpose of the article was to give the opinion of the president of the USA on America’s worst shooting in its history. The main point supported by the author is that Trump is opposed to gun control but considers that military-style assault rifle. He believes that people should be allowed to have guns but rifles should be regulated and the access to rifles should be harder. What makes the topic a social issue is that there have been so many shootings in recent years in the US so gun control is a hot topic right now as some think guns should be banned while others think not.

My opinion on this is that guns should be illegal period. I understand that the right to possess a firearm is an important part of the American culture but when guns are so easily accessible, it’s obvious that shootings happen so frequently. Take Canada for example where citizens aren’t allowed to have assault rifles, handguns (some are legal) and modified guns. In Canada, shootings and death casualties from it are way inferior to those in the US. This has to do with the simple fact that guns are legal in most states in the US and illegal in Canada. So when you ask me what my opinion is, I think guns should simply be banned in order to solve the shootings especially in the US and if gun control is refused because of the argument that “it’s in America’s culture to have the right to have a firearm”, then don’t expect to reduce shootings.
