The Truth is Catching Us

A lot of us have been ignoring this problem for a long time. You’re probably wondering what problem I am writing about. Well, it’s global climate change. By reading this, you will find out what global climate change is and what the consequences are.

First of all, global warming didn’t start out of nowhere. We could see the climate changing in the middle of the 19th century. But, it started to increase by the 20th century and mostly due to human activity as most of the scientist says. As you can see on the NASA's website, 95% of them agree on this theory. One of the top human activities that cause global warming is burning power plants to make our energy. In the US, 40% of their CO2 emissions comes from their electricity production. The most common human activity that does air emission is transportation. The scientists can observe climate changing thanks to satellites and other advanced technology that can make them collect a lot of different kind of information. By collecting the data, they can observe the signs of climate changing. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are trapped in the air which affects the transfer between infrared energy and the atmosphere. The amount of greenhouse gases is increasing so much that it makes the Earth warm.

Then, global warming is not without consequences. Earth became warmer than ordinary, 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit warmer to be exact. The warming has been increasing since 35 years ago. Last year, 2016, was the warmest year recorded. With the Earth becoming more hot than usual, obviously the ice is shrinking. As it says on the NASA’s website: “The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets have decreased in mass. Data from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment show Greenland lost 150 to 250 cubic kilometers (36 to 60 cubic miles) of ice per year between 2002 and 2006, while Antarctica lost about 152 cubic kilometers (36 cubic miles) of ice between 2002 and 2005.” With the ice melting, the water rises and extreme events are happening.

In conclusion, global warming is a real thing people and we need to make changes on how we can prevent it. For example, less car, more bus. Less oil, more renewable energy.

You can find a lot more about this on the NASA’s website. I feel like it is a reliable source of news because every inch of text is cited and sourced. You can click on the link which gets you to the website where they took the information which mostly comes from real and serious organisation. Always look for clues when you read an article. For exemple, if they are talking about an event that happened in a specific date and they show a picture. You can go look for the weather on that day and in that place to kind of see if the picture is reliable and if they are telling the truth.
