The Reporter's War

In the past years, the news world has changed a lot. Journalists have lost their control on the information. Now, with Internet, everybody can share everything. It especially true when a conflict appears: a lot of real fake reporters went to show the blood to the world. Nevertheless, the role of the war correspondent is more important than ever, but it comes now with two major kinds of needs: on the ground and with the media.
First of all, everybody can not become a journalist. In war zones, there are two categories of reporters. A minority of them are professional journalists. They are sent by newspapers or T.V channel and paid on a regularly base. The other category is the freelancers, it is the majority of reporters on the ground. They can do a great job, but the media pay them only for the articles they buy.
Secondly, both of them have the same needs on the ground. The first step is to have a place to stay. Normally, professional journalists know where they will rest. Everything is organized by their employer. Freelancers should organize their ‘’trip’. There are a shocking story published on Vice News (How I went to Syria to become a journalist) about a young men who travelled to Syria to become a journalist without really know where he would stay. He finished with a troop of soldiers of the Free Syrian Army trained to die as a martyre. The freelancer save his life, but it is clear that war zones comes with dangers, even for foreigners.
The second step is to have the tools needed. The most important is the language. English is spoken around the world, but not by everybody in the world. Sadly, a lot of current conflicts are in Arabic countries and Arab (particularly the one speak in Syria and Iraq) is particularly hard to learn. Professional journalists work with interpreters, but on the other side, freelancers do not have the money to hire someone else. Many of them start their career without being able to speak properly.
To be Published
The third step is maybe to most important. It is a good start to write great articles, but they have to be published. For journalists, it works in the usual ways, but it is much more complicated for freelancers. A lot of them take arrangement with some newspapers : freelancer send their texts to the newspapers or the press agency and the editorial team decides if the article is purchased or not.
