About me:

Working in Japan has been an interesting and rewarding experience. I came to teaching after a career in finance, first as an accountant with major north american pharmaceutical firms and then as a financial advisor. After a lengthy and successful career, I decided to take a sabbatical to reflect upon my life's choices. This sabbatical lasted seven years and took me to 70 countries. It was a most enjoyable sojourn but eventually it became tiring and the time arrived for a change. While in Thailand, I went to a gathering and met many people, all teaching in Asia. After questioning them on the merits of the different countries, I decided to investigate Japan which I had not been to yet. Teaching was a natural evolution for me. In my first months travelling often in the town squares, the children would gather and I would teach them english. It was fund and rewarding. In time I obtained various credentials and found the local schools were asking me to teach. This was a voluntary pursuit for me at the time. My arrival in Japan saw me teaching at various schools until i progressed within the system to teaching at the university level only. The travels were an excellent experience to understand human nature and myself better. The travel bug has not left me and I continue to travel and volunteer to help other teachers in remote and economically challenged countries.
