The term “crossing borders” can mean many things: from literal border-crossing such as immigration and migration, to cross-cultural communication and the difficulties it can cause. Emad Burnat’s Five Broken Cameras is a perfect example of that latter of these. In particular, it illustrates the conflict that arose between the small Palestinian village of Bil’in and Israelis whose settlements encroached on their land in an attempt to force the locals out of their village.

Antonia Biggs & colleagues (2013) constructed and analyzed the results of a study determining reasons why women have abortions. Actually in Greece, it is said that seven young people entering on the job market out of ten will be unemployed. At the moment, it represents the highest unemployment level in Europe with a percentage of 62.4% of young adults between the age of 16 and 25. This period of unemployment is caused by the financial crisis that, as we know, affected Greece gravely since around 2010. As the author said, it is now doubly stressful to finish school by seeing what awaits them on the job market when they need to work and study hard for their final exams.

The article “Sino-English Culture Difference and Teaching in Foreign Language Education” discusses the struggles foreign language instructors face in teaching the accompanying culture of the language they are teaching. These educators have long since ascertained the importance of teaching culture to their students, but the problem remains for how to go about doing this in a way that maximizes comprehension. The solution, this article asserts, lies in the mastery of a skill called ‘cultural creativity’. In order to better illustrate these points, the author uses the specific example of teaching English as a foreign language in China.
