In the article entitled “How Racism is Hurting Our Nation's Foster Children”, (Huffington Post, October 15, 2015), DaShanne Stokes discusses how racism is currently scarring the lives of over 400 000 American children who are in foster care. According to the Administration for Children and Families, over 50% of the children entering foster care systems in 2013 were of color. African American children are being taken from their families and put into foster care more frequently than Caucasian children.

On August 4th, 2014, Mark Kennedy published, “Keke Palmer set to become Broadway’s first black Cinderella” on the Huffington Post, to announce the actress’ good news. The twenty one year old star is mostly known for her role on Nickelodeon’s “True Jackson, VP”.  Palmer announced that she would be stepping into the glass slippers in “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” starting September 9th of the same year. She says that it had always been her dream to be a princess and thanks to her acting, singing and dancing skills, her dream has finally come true.

In the entitled, “‘Black’-sounding name makes people imagine a larger, more dangerous person” written by, University of California – Los Angeles, (Science Daily, October 7, 2015), the author explains his results to his experiment on seeing what names do to a view of a stranger. The author wanted to find how someone perceives another person’s height, size, and masculinity and as well as social class. The author took over 1500 participants do an experiment where they would read two scenarios, one with a ‘black’ name and another with a ‘white’ name.

On the 8th of July 2015, Katie Roger’s article called “Paula Deen faces backlash over ‘I love Lucy’ posting”, published in the New York Times discusses the second scandal Paula Deen faces in her career that is about racism. This time the controversy was caused by a picture that was posted on her social media accounts where Bobby Deen, her son had skin darkening makeup on his face. However, the picture was from her Halloween special that aired in 2011 where she and her son were dressed as characters from “I love Lucy”, a television sitcom.
