In França and Monteiro's (2013) research set out to observe racist or racially-biased behaviours amongst younger and older white children within a group dynamic. In this, we will only be observing the first of two studies in this paper. The hypotheses that the researchers had come up with were that the white children would be more likely to be credited than their black counterparts in general, and that older children are more likely to display egalitarian values than the younger kids when rewarding others where accomplishments were similar.

An issue in society that has only been growing involves the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community. The first public battle that I can remember, was fighting for social acceptance for lesbians, gays, and those who are bisexual. The next, was gay marriage. Currently, the social issue that seems to be everywhere is relating to those who are transgender. The issue has grown since those individuals now would like to be able to use the bathroom of their choice. Now I tend to stay away from this social topic, but an article struck my attention and I have now decided to go further into this societal controversy. The article on the Newsweek website, “Denying transgender people bathroom access is linked to suicide,” caught my attention as it probably would anyone. The title caught my attention because of how simply bizarre the idea that bathroom access could ever be linked to suicide rates.

I am researching the issue of terrorism in America. The main topic I will be focusing on is whether or not Muslims should be temporarily banned from immigrating into the United States.

The emergency to learn I was clearly not as familiar as I thought with the term "race". I had a very focussed idea on this subject and I had never thought of the million ways we could approach it. I knew about this way of dividing people into categories, but I quickly realized and learned about those categories that we call race, and the fact that they may be illogical.

During the last two weeks of class, I learned that human beings should not be classified into "race" since it is not biological, meaning that it is society that decides whether races exist or not. However we discusses in clss and wondered why people always want to know where other people with different origins come from. For example, I have a Black friend that was born in Africa, nut now lves here in Québec. when we are togetherhe often gets asked where he is from and people always skip me due to my skin color which they assume I come from Canada since I am white.

You think you know what you're getting when you're taking a race and racism course. I mean it's right there in the title; race and racism. A class where you learn about differences between all the races in the world and delve into the prejudices that surround these races. That was from the case. Learning that the idea of race is essentially a myth and just an excuse to put us into social groups was quite awakening.
