We spend at least twelve years of our lives in a school setting in the presence of teachers. Almost everyone has a teacher who has influenced their lives and for many instilled a love of learning and a want to educate. Education is not gender biased and teaching is not specifically geared toward one gender. Schools however, are seeing less and less male teachers. Elementary and Middle Schools specifically are seeing fewer men, with less than twenty percent of teachers being male. Part of this can be due to the low salary and less prestige that teaching in American now holds.

This year has seen its fair share of controversy and hate. Gender equality is a topic that keeps coming up and seems to center on women most of the time. More specifically, society tends to see women as generally weaker and more fragile than men. Women are even discriminated in the work place. A woman, who works at the same place and does the same job as a man, will be payed less than the man despite the fact that both of them have the same job. Women are also seen as easy targets for sexual harassment in the work place.

Released in Australia almost a decade ago, the advertisement “Trail of Destruction” featuring ZU Shoes sets as another example depicting the “ideal fashion” for women. It brings out the stereotypical and problematic message that women are meant to be seductive through the exaggerated reaction of the males in the advertisement.
