            During the summer of 2014, a new phenomenon quickly took hold of all social media platforms: the Ice Bucket Challenge. The objective of this new “trend” was to raise awareness against ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The idea was simple; you either donated money to the ALS Association or filmed yourself getting soaked by a bucket full of freezing ice water and uploaded the video to any social media. As a result, the association’s charity campaign was immensely successful and raised $115 million (“ALS Ice Bucket Challenge- FAQ”).

The issue of terrorism has never been more of importance than now, with the recent attacks on the French journal Charlie Hebdo. On January 7th 2015, two Jihadist brothers, Cherif and Said Kouachi killed 12 journalists of Charlie Hebdo, an editorial known for its opinion on Islam and terrorism (BBC News). The days following the attack, a hostage taking situation happened in a supermarket. Amedy Coulibaly and his wife Hayat Boumeddiene were the principal actors of the siege (BBC News).

Yet, football is only part of the entertainment. Indeed, the renowned singer Katy Perry diverted the spectators through extravagant representations of her hit-songs during the half-time show, accompanied by Lenny Kravitz and rapper Missy Elliot. However, the show does not cease during the commercials.
