Being adopted into a family can be a hard obstacle for some kids to overcome. As a baby, being adopted into a family and being raised by that family makes that person a part of that family. Just because they fit in with their families they still stand out in the American culture.

In purpose of this article is to bring attention to UNICEF wanting to end female genital mutilation. Female genital mutilation is a ritual of cutting girls’ genitals. This ritual is practice by some African, Middle Eastern and Asian communities (BBC New Africa, 2013). One of the main points and certainly needed when trying to understand these communities is the reason behind the ritual. These communities practice FGM with the belief that it protects women’s virginity and woman marriageable (BBC New Africa, 2013).

This article explains research on underage drinking during adolescent years. The researches tackled factors that protect or risk an adolescent from choosing to drink alcohol. A study was done with 18 youths who were put in 3 focus group interviews. They were asked open-ended questions that addressed the youth’s beliefs about the positive and negative consequences of alcohol use. The researchers used a qualitative research approach to organize their data. Factors such as family, peers, and the media have influences on adolescence when it comes to developing value-based expectations about alcohol use. Parental use of alcohol may result in an adolescent developing positive expectations of alcohol use. Also peer use of alcohol may result in alcohol use because a kid is trying to fit in or look cool around friends. Parental attitudes and beliefs are also seen to give adolescents negative views on alcohol. The media is shown to give adolescents the message that alcohol is acceptable and normal.

This article highlights the scary facts of the most serious eating disorders; anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder. All three disorders are found in various people, and they become uncontrollable by the victim. Individuals who suffer anorexia fear gaining weight, even when they are extremely underweight. They’re self-esteem is damaged and it effects their health and relationships. Victims of bulimia engage in binge-eating and feel completely out of control, they then purge afterward to try to undo their behavior. A person with a binge-eating disorder also uncontrollably binges, but does not use unhealthy weight control options afterward. It is very common that these individuals are overweight or obese.
