During the Women's Week in France, the TV Channel Arte has proposed a number of film tackling the issue of the status of women. 678 is an Egyptian film directed by Mohamed Diab focusing on the sexual harassment of women in Egypt. I wanted to write something about it because I found it very interesting.   The plot :

Just last month, Patricia Arquette denounced wage inequalities between men and women at the 87th Academy Awards. Last week, I had a drink with two friends (two men) : Thomas decided to take a tea, Julian and I took a beer. But when the waiter brought our drinks , he handed me automatically tea as if a woman does not necessarily drink beer (= as if beer were exclusively for men). These are just two examples. But this two examples shows that inequalities between men and women of any kind are still present everywhere. In everyday life.

At the end of the departmental elections on 22nd and 29th March, half of departmental councils will be women.     It will be a great step for parity – but not for equality. Up to that point, departmental councils were dominated by men but they will become the place for the women's breakthrough in political assembly elected by majority vote : in each canton, the electors will not vote for one candidate (man or woman) but for a duo with a woman and a man. So there will be as many women as men in each departmental council.

Callings like that1 are very frequent in Ciudad Juárez, located inside the state of Chihuahua, one of the 31 state that made Mexico. The city has become unfortunately famous for horrible killings of many young women, articles and books, as the Huesas en el Deserto (Bones in the Desert) written by Sergio González Rodriguez, describe the situation. Also the cinema has decided to show the problem on some movies as Bordertown (2006) with Jennifer Lopez and Antonio Banderas.

Behind this punchy headline lies a common frustration that feminists face. The expansion of the field of gender studies and its increasing recognition has led to more detailed, scientific and in depth research and knowledge about how gender permeates various aspects of our lives. But with these explanations of how gender is not just a fixed notion but a process that is constantly working to reproduce itself through our interactions and institutions, comes the feeling that gender equality will never be obtained.

Because I am French, I needed to tackle this issue. Because I am an Erasmus student and that I am here to discover a new cultur, to meet new people, to be more open-minded. Open-minded. It is something that everybody has to learn as we stand so far from it… Because I am writing on this blog, on which we individuals are free to write about whatever we want to. Freedom of speech.

During the last few months, a controversy has sparked off about school in France. Indeed, the former secretary of the Rights of Women, Najat Vallaud Belkacem suggested a school programm – called ''ABCD de l'égalité'' – in order to fight sexism and gender stereotypes.

Dear everybody,   because we have students from so many countries in our both classes, I would like to use the opportunity and compare them with regard to gender inequality.

''Gender relations, embodied in the sexual division of labor, compulsory heterosexuality, discourses and ideologies of citizenship, motherhood, masculinity and feminity, and the like, profoundly shape the character of welfare states. Likewise, the instituions of social provision – the set of social assistance and social insurance programs, universal citizenship entitlements, and public services to which we refer as '' the welfare state'' – affect gender relations in a variety of ways.''
