The article I have chosen is called “New Approches to End Texting”, this article talks about the dangers of texting and driving. A lot of teens don’t understand the importance of staying concentrated on the road while driving, they hear the buzz from their phone go off and it’s like second nature to them to check it. Some don’t have the will power to keep from looking at it. This article talks about how Penning set up an obstacle to show the hazardous driving that teens produce while being distracted by theirs phones. He states very clearly that while you are driving and are asked a question that your brain tracks off in a way and isn’t fully concentrated on the road. “90% of collisions occur because of cell phone”. I can gather from this article that when you are driving and having a conversation with the passenger you can still be as distracted as if you are texting. There is a new app found on smartphones called “no texting app”, it will automatically send any calls or texts to a voicemail so that you are not distracted in any way behind the wheel. This app can be found almost on any land line. All in all when it comes down to driving and your safety, it is your choice if you decide to pick up the cell phone or not.
I found this article to be very eye opening to me, I wasn’t aware that most accidents that happen are due to distractions that can occur in your car. I think this article should be read by every teen learning to drive and those who are currently driving. This article can show them that using the phone can most definitely wait if you are driving, and for those who “can’t help themselves” now have a solution to their problem! They can install the new app that will silence their phones until the car is not in motion. I think that every teen should really look into downloading this app because for many kids and even more adults, this could be the one life saver for them.
