The article Race to College: The “Reverse Gap” written by William Mangino argues that a reverse gap exists in the college educational system. Mangino does an experiment using a group of 12,576 people of five different races but only focusing of whites and blacks. The author wants to break the stereotype that black people are drop outs and white people are high graduates.

The academic research article “Interracial Relationships and the Transition to Adulthood” has as its purpose to demonstrate and justify the change of patterns of the involvement in interracial sexual relationships during the transition to adulthood. This analysis is based on the data collected by the National Health and Social Life Survey (NHSLS, 1990s) and by the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health, 2000s). The main hypothesis of Joyner and Kao (2005) is that the involvement in interracial sexual relationships decreases with the increasing age of young adults.

From slavery to economic inequality in contemporary society, African Americans have a history of being marginalized. In an article by William Wilson, the important relationship between race (African Americans) and income segregation (joblessness) is analyzed in a thought provoking way.

The NFL will not let teams show their support for officers that risk their lives everyday, but they let individual players kneel during our countries national anthem. Players are able to stick up for black lives but not officers that have been killed.

An issue in society that has only been growing involves the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community. The first public battle that I can remember, was fighting for social acceptance for lesbians, gays, and those who are bisexual. The next, was gay marriage. Currently, the social issue that seems to be everywhere is relating to those who are transgender. The issue has grown since those individuals now would like to be able to use the bathroom of their choice. Now I tend to stay away from this social topic, but an article struck my attention and I have now decided to go further into this societal controversy. The article on the Newsweek website, “Denying transgender people bathroom access is linked to suicide,” caught my attention as it probably would anyone. The title caught my attention because of how simply bizarre the idea that bathroom access could ever be linked to suicide rates.

On the 8th of November, the American people must cast their vote for the next president—either an unpolished, seemingly prejudice business man or a corrupt woman who has been enveloped in scandal since the womb. Even if you do not know much about current politics, it is easy to understand why the election in November of 2016 will go down in history as one of the most controversial and pivotal elections in American history.

We tend to believe that we can classify individuals into certain categories based on their “race”. After taking this anthropology class I realised that we, human, do not know much about “race”. In this essay I will provide reasons on why my view on the concept of “race” started to change.

Although I had a general understanding of the concept of “race” before, I have learned a lot since the first day in this class. For instance, I learned that the main point behind the concept of “race” is that one group of people is different from the other based on a specific factor.
