EPC’s are not made available to the public in Laos, which makes this study particularly interesting.

Obesity in children has been called an epidemic now that attention has been drawn to it. With the rise in childhood obesity it can increase the number of adults that are overweight as well. The health problems that people develop over time due to obesity can be very serious if nothing is changed. According to the journal, child obesity needs to be assessed right away so that the kids can use prevention or intervention programs (Obese parents—obese children?). A parents diet plan can affect a child’s weight development although early weaning promotes gaining weight.

Prejudices against the obese community are fairly common and are not based on facts. Stereotypes against obese individuals include people thinking obese people are lazy, unintelligent, lack self-disciplined and are less capable than people without obesity.

After reading this article on the Montreal Gazette tonight, I decided to re-write my news summary because I thought this one was more of a feel-good topic. The article, written by June Thompson, features a local group called the Morning Walkers have been together for 20 years on Friday. The members are all between 55 and 85 years of age and joined the group to take up a healthier lifestyle.
