I was an elementary school teacher in Korea, and now pursuing my Master's program in Art Education in Montreal. English is not my first language but my major requires lots of (well-written) academic writing. I often misuse wrong 'article' or 'preposition' when I create sentences, and mix 'tense's within a paragraph. I mostly want to develop my writing ability so I can continue my academic career successfully and express my idea effectively.
I have a hard time finding a right/decent writing class that can fit my needs. I tried to register classes through continuing education center from my university but it often get canceled at the last minute, which changed my study plan. Taking these courses, made me work on a different assignment which did not really match with my own needs, so I really have to set some time aside from my own study to take these training. This means, taking a writing class needed a lot of pre-planning, so once it is canceled, it made me even more frustrated.
I also tried to get some helps by taking workshops for graduate students, and attended 'writing center' to review my writings. However these sessions are only for a short term and I could not get a consistent feedback since the editor/instructor changes whenever I sign up (or each course is given by different instructors), and the sessions were very short. So I am happy to join this writing club - at least I do not need to worry about it get canceled at the last minute, and I can write things about the topic that I want to work on the most! I hope this NewsActivist club can offer me the alternative but efficient path to continue improving my writing.
