About me:

I am a CEGEP (kinda like Quebec's College) student, 4th semester, was born and raised in and around Montreal, am very opinionated and raring to start any kind of ideological back and forth, could probably argue my way out of a metal box, and have at least a few years experience skeptically eyeing suspicious articles.

The article “The US Military Is Building Gangs of Autonomous Flying War Bots” by Patrick Tucker, published on the Defense One news website on January 23, 2015, talks about the appeal of unmanned drones compared to their manned equivalents, as well as discusses the inherent drawbacks of automating war-machines. In addition to discussing the legally grey area surrounding the issue, Tucker also talks about the moral danger of the situation. It must be noted that this article is hosted on Defense One, which is less subtle in its support for US national security than most other sites.

Recently environmental issues have been entertaining the newsroom spotlight more than ever before, and for good reason. The issues concerning environmentalism are complex and far-flung, making dealing with the ever-rising problems difficult to say the least. However, recent news from Montreal brings signs that the end isn’t so near as data collected by Radio-Canada states that the city’s air quality was the best in fourteen years. Considering the number of smog-blanketed cities in China and many other countries, an example like this, of air quality improvement, is refreshing.

The Guardian has been providing factual newspaper articles since 1821. One of the correspondents for this newspaper is Tom Phillips who is stationed in Beijing and continues to provide readers with articles addressing international matters. Out of the many works that are written by Mr. Phillips, the one piece in particular that intrigued me the most was: "Beijing Smog: Pollution Red Alert Declared in China Capital and 21 Other Cities" which was published to The Guardian on December 17, 2016.
