About me:

I'm Brianne, this is my final semester at Champlain College and I am currently studying social science: education option. On my past time, I enjoy learning musical instruments, and practicing the ones that I currently study. Since I was in high school, my dream career "you can say" has been to become a elementary teacher abroad. As I am currently applying for universities, I have looked into studying abroad.

The inauguration of the new president, doesn't affect me. With this being said, I do not fear anything but I hope that the Americans aren't greatly affected by what the new President Trump has to do for the next four years.

Throughout the whole semester my focus of my work has been surrounding the different aspects of mental health. In order to find new and creative ways to show the truth of mental health issues, I have found 2 sources of current events that have occurred within the last month. In addition, I have decided to challenge myself in creating a blog that discusses the issue of mental illnesses, featured on the site are; TedTalks, places to visit within Canada for help, photography, and much more. I created this blog to illustrate the stigma against mental health problems.

Animal cruelty is a subject that is being disregarded by many but shouldn’t be. Numerous people take this subject very lightly and don’t really know or think about it. I guarantee that many readers reading this will be surprised to find out the amount of times a Canadian abuses an animal. This is why I’ve taken on this issue and have chosen to talk about it.

Feminism and Humanism: What’s the difference?   Equal rights, self-determination, and integrity are all forms of rights feminists prove to highlight, but just how is this possible if society is so against regulating all of these controversies? Many people may have never thought about the similarities that go hand-in-hand between two terms that everyone is familiar about; humanism and feminism.

The Zimmerman 911 tape made it big in the news and the internet. Its reason is shocking. The trust worthy NBC news has posted a fake tape demonstrating how racist Zimmerman was towards the victim. Here is a segment of the fake tape showed by the program and “said” by Zimmerman: “He looks like he’s up to no good, he looks black.” In reality, Zimmerman was not being racist towards the victim. Everybody knows that racism is still a very important and prominent issue in our society. Everyday, people of color or other ethnicities not white are mistreated by law enforcement for no apparent reason. Other than the color of their skin, the law enforcement mainly rely on the situational and community factors when contemplating if nonlethal force is needed or not to apprehend a suspect. This is a very important topic because all citizens should be treated equally by law enforcement no matter what race or community they may come from.

This advertisement of Natan Diamonds is particularly disturbing. It is a jewelry advertisement showing a girl with her legs crossed in the picture and a man holding a closed jewelry box on the left. In the picture on the right, the jewelry box is open with the diamond ring showing. Surprisingly, in the second image, the legs of the woman are open. Gender is very important in this ad. The focus in the advertisement should be specifically on the diamond but the diamond is barely visible.

Bullying is a worldwide issue that I feel strongly about. There is no exact cause as to why individuals become bullies because each case is different but there are some common reasons. One might be that an individual might have low self-esteem and bring others down to make themselves feel better. Another may be the satisfaction of having power over others. For what reason an individual might bully someone can vary but the consequences are still the same. The ones being bullied are still walking away with fear, stress and resentment inside them.
