Ask any average student what is essential for his or hers survival during exam season and its most likely the first answer will be coffee. A great number of students, myself including, go to Starbucks in the evening to get a soothing atmosphere and fuel to prevent us from falling asleep in our notes.

More and more in society, we are seeing young people suffering from extreme anxiety, being diagnosed with forms of clinical depression, and, in some cases, even committing suicide. In many of these instances, past sexual relationships are what are at the root of these unfortunate down-ward spirals in young adults. Where is this system going wrong?

Dr. Huas, a French doctor specializing in mental health developed a study that would help clinicians better understand the causes and risks of mortality in patients with anorexia nervosa. This study is one of the very few that has aimed to find the specific signs that would lead to mortality in a women with anorexia nervosa; knowing that “anorexia has a one in three mortality rate (Huas, 2011).” The study involved 601 women only, who were admitted in-patient due to meeting the DSM-IV criteria and requirements for anorexia nervosa.

Historically data about male eating disorders have been over looked and not focused on. Recently there has either been a large amount of men with eating disorders or men have been over looked in the past. The ratio or male to female eating disorders is 1:10 historically but recently data supports the ratio 1:3.

Psychiatrists and authors of the study, Nagata and Yamada hypothesize that the use of the Mood Disorder Questionnaire and the Bipolar Spectrum Diagnostic Scale on patients treated with eating disorders will accurately detect and diagnose bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. Fashion and beauty are part of our every day life. We are judge constantly on our appearance and ignoring others' judgment is extremely difficult. People are ready to do many things to achieve what they want to look like. Whatever they do, some will never like what they see in the mirror.  These people will often develop eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia. These problems are very present in the women's fashion industry because girls are constantly comparing themselves with each other.

Recently, Triggs produced an article “An Anorexia Victim Fights Back”, portraying how ineffective and uninformed insurance companies are with treatment for mental disorders and even more importantly, anorexia. Anorexia, a mental illness that has the highest mortality rate out of any in its class- yet only fourteen states are legally mandated to cover its carriers for hospitalization and other various treatments.
