How often do we go see a movie with a strong female lead that we wouldn’t lump into the category of “chick-flick”? Even scarcer is a movie with a person of color in the lead role when the movie isn’t about that person’s skin color. Most films are predominantly white male characters. This typically leads to a very stereotyped version of the remaining types of people being represented. This is unfortunate for a number of reasons. More and more schools are implementing lessons based on films.

A mentally ill man from St John’s who was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder was just released from jail after being charged with assault and threatening his father and step-mother. The man, Taylor Mitchell, 21, ran after them with a chainsaw and hit his father. The police were called and Mitchell was arrested and spent the night in jail and was denied bail. His lawyer, Joan Dawson, says that jail was the very last place he should’ve been because of his mental disorders.

In order to accomplish this, the researchers gathered a sample size of 186 undergraduate women ranging from age 18-23.

It has always baffled me that Americans are able to claim to be animal rights activists while simultaneously sitting down to a nice steak dinner. It seems to me that “ignorance is bliss” should be a slogan printed on every neatly packaged corpse able to be purchased in a super market. Namit Arora, author of “On Eating Animals”, brings up an interesting point: why are we okay with eating some animals, such as chickens, pigs, and cows, but are outraged at the idea of eating “cute” animals such as cats and dogs (p. 28)?

A person who chooses to work in health care has the moral duty to protect and maintain the health of his or her patient. If an individual chooses not to have an annual influenza shot because of his or her own reasoning, is this considered a violation of that duty? Contrarily, is it ethically justified to force those working in the medical field to get an immunization they do not want with threats to their positions?
