The article “Standing Rock pipeline protesters repelled by force at bridge crossing” written by The Associated Press aims to inform the public on the increasing tensions associated with the construction of the $3.8 billion “Dakota Access” pipeline in Standing Rock Indian reserve adjacent to their primary source of water. The Dakota Access pipeline is expected to carry oil from North Dakota to Illinois which will eventually reach its destination to Gulf of Mexico.

In a seemingly controversial move, the Ontario Government has canceled 3.8 billion dollars in their plan to further its investments in green energy, including solar, wind, and biofuel energy.  Since the Liberal Party introduced Long Term Energy Plan in 2013, there has been value conflict between the Liberals (party in power) and the Progressive Conservatives (opposition party) over the costs associated with the Liberal’s green energy initiatives.

The number of heroin overdoses have been rising quickly over the last few months. In Erie County, NY there were almost 600 opiate overdose deaths by April of 2016 this includes heroin and prescription opiates such as morphine, oxycodone, and methadone. There was 39% increase in heroin related deaths in 2012-2013. This number has continued to rise; Opiate overdoses have doubled in the last year all over the country. Officials are saying that the country is facing a heroin epidemic.

As a country which was once a leader on global environmental issues, it is upsetting to see the disregard that the Canadian government has for environmental implications of its power generation today. A CBC article, titled Nuclear Power Plant Safety Inspections Hit and Miss, Watchdog Says, aims to raise major issues in reporting and inspection of Canada’s nuclear power plants.

The Ontario Government has canceled 3.8 billion dollars in their plan to further its investments in green energy, including solar, wind, and biofuel energy. The main argument to cancel the plan has to do with the rising hydro prices in Ontario, which has been paying for green energy investments, creating a surplus of energy in Ontario.
