Over the course of this semester, I have written, commented, and submitted a collection of posts to Newsactivist. In this project, our final Newsactivism post, I will reflect on my news summaries, my volunteering opportunity, and the overall connection between all the work I have completed during this semester.
The situation of veiled women is an important issue because the reaction of the government to this problem is representative of the Quebecers mentality, since these people were elected by the population. Quebec's mentality is questioned and this is why people need to settle this problem intelligently. This research is filling theoretical gap by proposing several ways of thinking about veiled women issue.
On April 30th, 2014 I volunteered at the organization called “Moisson Montreal” from 12:30am to 3:30pm. When I had first arrived at this organization they showed a short clip of 5 minutes and talked to us volunteers about their goals and objectives , which were to provide food to organizations in need. They supply food to over 50 organizations around the Montreal area.
By adjusting the means or the overall end goal of the Federation of Muslim Women organization, the organization will better serve the community and build partnerships necessary for the society.Change Consultant Report: Changing the World One Veil at a Time
The article " Charter of Quebec values would ban religious symbols for public workers" written in September, 10th 2013 by CBC news, is related to the situation of veiled women in Quebec. To resume, the Parti Quebecois is against the fact that women could where a veil that cover her face and her skin when they are outside their houses. The government would not allowed public employees "to wear overt religious symbols at work." They hope to pass this law so women would not be able to wear their hijab, kippa and other types of veil when they are working.
Taking a look at how religious discord within families affects the quality of relationship between parents and young children. Research suggests that higher religious discord correlates with a lower quality relationship. From my experience I have found this to be true.
Rape has long been a part of world history. In Ancient Rome, rape was referred to as “raptus” meaning violent theft, and this term was applied to both people and property (Jiloha 250). I would like to believe that more than 2,000 years later, we as a society could figure out how to stop assaulting women and men in this way. It is well known that women are the primary victims, but why is this? Are we considered weaker? The lesser gender? Unfit to fight back?
Bullying is a growing problem throughout the entire nation. It takes on many forms and occurs in several different contexts. The effects that bullying has on its victims can be tremendous and not only include physical harm, but can damage the emotional well-being of the individual. The research that is described by Ockerman et al. (2013) in their article, “From the School Yard to Cyber Space,” shows that bullying is very prevalent within adolescence and is a situation that needs to be controlled.
Last session, in my sociology class, we talked about an important problem concerning immigration; to be more specific, the immigration of veiled women. When I was writing the text about Cyber bullying, I found an article about a Muslim teen, who needs to wear a veil because of her religion, and she was a victim of cyber bullying because of that. I thought to the situation that the government need to face one or two years ago concerning the rights of women immigrants.
The article that I chose mainly focused on bullying in Irish school systems and how cyberbullying is a new obstacle for school management and conducted research on how they can begin to put policies in place to help prevent cyberbullying. The article mentions how since the 1970’s research data has been collected and since then there has been a lot of data taken in regards to individual differences and aggression held toward defining features and sub-types. More importantly this data is being used to determine methods on how to help get rid of bullying and even cyberbullying for good.
One of the summaries that I wrote was about environment and how the earth will be in 2050, so the person that I will talk about is linked with this subject but I need to go back in the past for this. Everybody knows that gas is part of the things that have a negative effect on our planet. In 1830, Robert Anderson, a Scottish, was the first person that came out with an idea that will solve a big problem that the planet is confronted, pollution. There is not much information about this man but I think that his idea is really interesting.

Ending the Death Penalty by Dale. S Recinella
Is the death penalty necessary? After 1976, when the death penalty was reinstated, innocent people were wrongly convicted (Recinella, 2008, p.12). According to many churches, if there is no other way to protect innocent law-abiding citizens the death penalty shall be used (Recinella, 2008, p. 13).
I believe that the death penalty is ineffective.
In her article called “SQ investigations police shooting on Berri St.” by Marian Scott, she describes that a troublemaker was hunting the streets of Montreal with a hammer after scaring his tenants by breaking everything he could reach. He resigned to calm down when the police officers told him to. Oppositely he jumped on a police car waving the hammer, showing clearly no cooperation at all.
