In his recent article, Vaughn (2012) states that texting while driving is more dangerous than driving while drunk. He states that in a study performed by Car and Driver magazine, a driver with a blood alcohol content of .08 was able to stop within 4 feet from the mark he stopped while sober. In the same test, a driver who was reading a text stopped 36 feet from his normal mark, and while typing a text stopped 319 feet from his non distracted mark.
