Another Shooting – When Will This End?

There was a shooting in a daycare in Gatineau on Friday, April 5th according to an article in The Globe and Mail. The 53 children in the daycare were not injured, but one of the staff members and the shooter were found dead at the arrival of the police. The shooter killed himself before the police’s arrival and it is speculated that his romantic life may have been part of why he committed this dramatic act. Parents were very shaken when they came to get their kids when they heard about the shooting.
The one in Connecticut shooting a few months ago and now this one; isn’t it time to really look at our gun laws? Though Canada’s gun laws are tougher than those in the United-States, shootings still occur and cause much sadness and pain to a community. Some people think they have the right to wear a gun, but this could very well be dangerous to others. This shooting in Gatineau could have been much more dramatic if the shooter would have attacked the children. Luckily, none of them were injured, but this is not a reason to ignore the incident. We need to do everything in our power to make sure shootings only happen on television and in movies, never in real life. Guns are made to kill or at least to injure, so they cause many dangers to our society.
