The Association of Relatives and friends of people with mental illness in the South Shore’s mission is to join together the family and friends of a person who suffers from mental illness, and offer support services to help them overcome their disorder. The ages range from kids as young as three years old to young adults at the age of 25. 3 to 10 year old kids are offered art therapy, older kids aged 10 to 15 are offered art therapy and individual meetings, and teenagers and young adults aged 15 to 25 are offered both of those as well as support group meetings. The organization aims to help these people in seeing their true potential in life and to guide them into recovery. They raise public awareness on mental health, encourage more research on mental illness, and basically dedicate themselves to improve the quality of life of these families. They hold psychosocial interventions, support groups and self-help, training activities as well as outreach and training environments. This year, they are introducing a new activity called Hatha Yoga. The sessions are held in the afternoon for an hour and 15 minutes. The cost is 25$ per person if you are a member of APAMM-RS, and 50$ if you are not. In order to able to become involved in this organization, you must become a member by either applying on the website and filling out some information forms, or by downloading the membership form online and mailing them your information.
