Rebuilding lives and mental health one step at a time

Achieving balance through empowered healing is the main value that drives the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal (NWSM) since 1987. The goals of the NWSM are to provide a safe environment where women can begin to rebuild their lives and their mental health. They offer support and frontline services to Aboriginal women and children to promote their empowerment and independence. The NWSM is the only women’s shelter in Montreal that provides services exclusively to Aboriginal and Inuit women and their children. The NMSM can accommodate up to 16 women and children per night.

They accept new volunteers for volunteer orientations every two months. Presently, they are looking for volunteers to help support the staff so that they can better serve the clients. Our greatest needs are in office work, childcare, and organizing the donations room. At the moment, they are not looking for volunteers to work directly with the clients in health or social services. If you are interested in volunteering at the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, please contact us at (514) 933-4688, or send an e-mail to chantal.rooster@gmail.com. I have tried to contact Mrs. Rooster but unfortunately I am still waiting for a response.

The NWSM has many projects in 2014 such as Welcoming Fire Outreach Program, the holistic health project, Community Support Project, In-house programs, and in addition to providing shelter to Native American woman in Montreal.
