The Lighthouse, Children & Families is a non-profit organization that focuses on the well-being of children who suffer from life-threatening illnesses, and provide support for their families. In order to achieve this mission, they offer three different types of services, which are: End-of-life care at Maison André Gratton, the only pediatric care facility in Quebec. In-home respite care that is provided three times per week by trained volunteers who know how to take care of children who require special attention, and support services for the parents and siblings of the child where they help them experience every step of a sick child’s life. You can sign up as a volunteer for any three of these opportunities by simply filling out a form online through the organization’s website. This year, they are organizing a 5 or 21K marathon to raise money for seriously ill children, called The Scotiabank Charity Challenge. Any level of walkers or runners can participate in the event, and baby strollers and wheelchairs are also welcome. It takes places April 27th, 2014 at Parc Jean Drapeau.
