Organization: Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)
The Canadian Mental Health Association sets out to promote mental health and support those who are interested in recovering from a mental illness. Their main goal is to help those who are affected by a mental illness develop into a healthy, confident, and productive individual.
CMHA Mission: “As the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health, CMHA facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness. One popular project CMHA is working on this year is the “Bell, Let’s Talk” fundraiser. This project sets out to encourage Canadians across the country to text, call, and/or tweet in support of mental health awareness. CMHA hopes to make a significant impact on breaking down the stigma attached to mental illness.
How it works: According to CMHA website Bell Let’s Talk Day donates 5¢ to mental health initiatives for every;
-Text message sent
-Tweet using #BellLetsTalk
-Facebook shares of the Bell Let’s Talk image.

The CMHA has many volunteer opportunities available based on their branches or regions. Their opportunities consist of providing bereavement support to those affected by a mental illness, fundraising activities, bingo games, golf tournaments, office support, and even working on a specific project.
How to Volunteer
To volunteer CMHA dedicated a page on their website to help those interested in volunteering to find a center near them to identify opportunities available in their location. Clicking here will bring you to their branch locator and will list opportunities that will enable you to gain experience, acquire new skills, meet new people and expand your network of contacts, all this in addition to helping those who are in need.

The Canadian Mental Association was founded in 1918 and it is one of the oldest voluntary organizations in Canada. Each year CMHA provides services to more than 100,000 mentally ill Canadians with the help of 10,000 volunteers and staff. Additionally, CMHA provides specific, unique services to aboriginals in hopes to enable a better, mentally healthy lifestyle.
