The Increase in Climate Change: The Increase of the Sahara Desert

In the article “World’s largest desert has grown even larger due to climate change”, the author, Josh Gabatiss, describes how climate change is a huge factor in the Sahara Desert growing significantly in the past century. That being said, the purpose of this article is to inform people on the effects of climate change, and how it negatively impacts our world; the article examines a study that was performed with data collected since 1923. With intentions to find what caused and contributed to changes in rainfall in the Sahara regions, experts found that the Sahara Desert had expanded by approximately 10%; the author mentions how one of the negative effects is that people living in the border of the Sahara region, known as the Sahel, are losing more land to the desert. Although these results are specific to the Saharan Desert, Professor Sumant Nigam, an atmospheric and oceanic scientist from the University of Maryland, presumes that this is the case in other deserts in the world. It was concluded that this is due to both natural climate cycles and human-caused climate change. As this is not only an issue in the Sahara Desert, but rather worldwide, this is a social problem that needs to be solved once and for all.

At this point, this is not a surprising event anymore; for so long, glaciers have been melting, sea levels have been rising, animals have been losing their habitat, and ecosystems have been changing. Until what point will this issue seem so bad that nations are forced to take action against these environmental concerns? As human beings on their own do not have the will to change our systematic behavior, I think it is important that the government enforces laws making individuals live in an eco-friendlier way. Laws are to be strictly obeyed, and therefore, I think that this measure would be more efficient when it comes to saving our planet.

I found this article really interesting and appropriate because when we talk about climate change we often talk about the Artic and the ice that is melting but this article shows us what is going on in the Sahara Desert. It is a really informative article and the data is collected since 1923 so it is really structure. I never really noticed but the fact that the Sahara Desert is expending is making some people lose land. I really like how you resume the article but you should try to put more example! What is great about your article is that the video in it is super interesting and it helps to understand!

This give us another perspective of the issues, when they say that the weather in Africa get warmer I realized that climate change is not only affecting the Arctic for example.
