Binge-eating disorder could be as bad as bulimia

I was attracted by this article because I wanted to understand what can lead people to eat so much bad food, even with everything we know now about nutrition.

Binge-eating is a mental illness that follows people for their whole life, taking roots in the adolescent period. The new research by the World Health Organization, showed that binge-eating is just as harmful as bulimia nervosa. Both disorders includes episodes of loss of control with food consumption. The only difference is that bulimia includes the use of laxative to lose the weight from over eating.  The study discovered that both binge-eating and bulimia starting in the adolescence leads to mental disorders like anxiety or depression and physical disorders like diabetes and muskuloskeletical problems.  It is also related to low rate of employment among men.

I think this article shows how much the habits we take at a young age can follow us and affect us for the rest of our lives. Food can bring comfort to people with eating disorders, but I think it is a good idea to keep ourselves busy and find other ways of gratification than food. Some people might not like to practice sports, but you can get involved in others activities around you. It is too tempting to eat when you are at home with nothing to do and your refrigerator is next to you.
