World View VS. World View

A public schools job for a student is to teach freedom of thought and speech. This includes not discriminating a certain belief system and not promoting one’s own world view. On October 15, 2015, a history teacher did just this. He promoted his own religious beliefs and made a discriminating comment on a young student’s own beliefs. This event made its way to court with people on both sides of the argument but the student’s argument won with the court. The school faced consequences and the teacher that was involved faced disciplinary actions. My opinion is this. Public schools should be a place of openness and acceptance on all beliefs. Whether that be Catholic, atheist, Jewish or what ever world view one might hold true. There is more peace to be had when religions and views are not fought over but all accepted.
