A small mistake that could have affected the image of our country

In the article “Incorrect Fox News tweet on Quebec City mosque attack earns scorn of PMO” published on January 31, 2017 by Peter Zimonjic explained the mistake that Fox news committed when giving false information about the Quebec City mosque shooting. According to Zimonjic, Kate Purchase (the director of communications for the Prime Minister`s office) wrote to Fox News querying the removal of a disgraced tweet that stated that the suspect in the shooting was of Moroccan origin. Fox news acknowledged and apologized for their mistake by eliminating their tweet. The confusion caused by Fox News led other organizations to report fake news. However, Fox News in their tweet only stated one suspect while other organizations mentioned two possible suspects. Not only Fox News stated that the suspect was Moroccan but also the tweet enclosed an image of the prime minister saying "We condemn this terror attack on Muslims.” Purchase claimed that this tweet harmed the families of the victims and also judged and misinterpreted the information which somehow changed the image of an open and welcoming country. She stated that the misinformation could cause not only a division of communities but also could cost a spread fear among ethnicities. On Tuesday, Refet Kaplan the director of Foxnews.com distributed a statement apologizing and saying that they were taking action to correct their error. Later on the week, Fox News deleted the tweet and corrected it. Purchase expressed gratitude after this action was made.

Nowadays, news organizations don’t take any moment to think and analyze their information. We can see much mews organization that spread misinformation or mislead to a different fact. It can be seen as small errors but sometimes this causes more than that. For example, in the above article we can discuss how a small mistake could have affected the relations between countries and harmed people. News organization should take time to consider and evaluate their sources because in a sensitive time such a small error can affect many.

Was compelled by the title of your post, made me really want to read what you had to say about it. The post has great style of writing, easy to understand and appreciate.
What I particularly liked about this issue is that I could relate to it because I found that many issues posted by the news could be false and this could cause a big mess. Many could feel either offended or threatened by news just like you mentioned in your article. So I very much agree with your point that many organizations, such as CNN, BBC and many others. For example in this article by Buzz feed, you will see how many fake news has gone viral and affected people. https://www.buzzfeed.com/craigsilverman/top-fake-news-of-2016?utm_term=....

In the end, really liked your article, very satisfying to read. Keep it up!
