Time To Cross Out The Red Cross?

Time to cross out the Red Cross?

Is the American Red Cross the world’s true saviour or is it time to cross it out from our list of honest and helpful organizations. The American Red Cross is one of the world’s biggest NGOs spending hundreds of millions of raised dollars each year on disaster relief. However, with every disaster American Red Cross attempts to relieve, more controversy arises.

Homelessness in Montreal: How research from politics, economics and social work can help improve the issue

Poverty is a global issue that is one of the worst, if not the worst. It is often the cause of many other problems such as access to water, health system problems and epidemic diseases. Even though living in the Western world may seem an easy thing to deal with as it is a common belief that poverty is an issue that does not touch this part of the world, many people will experience homelessness, which is a form of poverty, throughout their lives.

Parrainage Champlain organization: a year of sharing and learning

Over a year ago, I started volunteering on a monthly basis with Greenpeace, the Phare de Longeuil working with homeless people, and the Santropol Roulant collaborating with elderly and xenophobic people. I always really enjoyed it, but recently, I came to realize that I wanted to engage myself into a greater commitment, something that would maybe not reach a lot of people, but that could have a greater impact on one individual. I wanted to meet and share with someone experiencing a different reality, or at least, more than I was used to.

Homelessness in Montreal: How research from politics, economics and social work can help improve this issue

most importantly interesting to read.

Hope you can make something out of this,

Sergey

A Means To An End or An End To A Means?

Over the years, since the rapid emergence of modern globalization, ideas and commodities have not only been exchanged within long distances but have also changed the manner in which countries communicate with other countries which integrates a sense of complex yet an interconnected system. Furthermore, as a result of these ideas and commodities to be exchanged, systems and establishments such as multinational corporations and foreign exchange markets were created to formalize commercial transactions.

Onchoceriasis, also known as River Blindness, is an infection caused by a parasitic worm, which can be transmitted through black fly bites (“Onchoceriasis”).  This bite can lead to blindness, and affects 18 million people in Central and Western Africa and some places in Central America (“Merck Offers Free Distribution of New River Blindness Drug”).
