Orthotrichum lyelli

A team of researchers discovered incredolous amounts of cadium and arsenic in the air of the hotspots of Portland, which can prove hazardous to human health such as development of anomalies in children and cancer. During the investigations of these hotspots, the same team of researchers found an unlikely indicator of highly polluted air: the moss named Orthotrichum lyelli, which is not only cheaper than the current method they are using, but also much much more economical.

Summary of the article “Neuroscience maps new ways to treat human fear and anxiety”

I read an article called Neuroscience maps new ways to treat human fear and anxiety written by Anne Q. Hoy on October 24th 2016. This article was about the paper published in September by Joseph LeDoux, professor of science and director of two institutes at New York University, and Dr. Daniel Pine, chief of the National Institute of Mental Health Intramural Research Program. In short, they say that fear and anxiety occur in two different sets of neutral circuits that react differently to threats instead of occurring in a single “fear center”.

What we learned about Early Modern Medicine.

The 18th century, a time period viewed as the Enlightenment, was one evolution and advances in Europe. The medical field still had a strong non-scientific influence, but it can be considered as the start of the rise of scientific medicine (Rodgers, 2017). Many important books were printed and distributed, which was the start of the increasing importance of the human anatomy (Spray).

Summary of the article "Random Errors in DNA Replication Play Major Role in Cancer"

I just read the article named “Random Errors in DNA Replication Play Major Role in Cancer” written by Meagan Phelan in March 23, 2017. This article was about scientists discovering that cancers do not have only environment and heredity as principal sources, but also random errors created in the body itself. These errors, called “R” mutations, have been localized into replications of DNA. Before that discovery, researchers haven’t given a big attention to the mutations, but now that this case is raised, people are more conscious.

Random Errors in DNA Replication Play Major Role in Cancer ... What Else ?

A lot of element can cause a cancer but one of them is particularly grabbing our attention: the “R mutations” or “random mutations”. In fact, two-thirds of mutations in human cancers are engendered by a random error in DNA replication and this happen even when the cells are completely healthy. This means that heredity and environment have a greatly lower impact on cancer mutation than everybody always thought. Up until now, R mutations have been neglect but these mutations need to be taken very seriously.
