The city of Montreal is trying to pass a new bylaw where as of September, Pit Bull Terriers will be banned from the territory because of the recent accidents such as, the death of Christine Vadnais where a Pit Bull killed her in her own backyard and the many other non-fatal attacks and bites. Montreal’s goal is to faze them out by waiting till the Pit Bulls purchased or adopted before September die.

            In Karin Brulliard’s article, “Rhinos are having their horns hacked off for art. The U.S. confiscated them and burned them at a zoo” published in the National Post, she informs us that a bonfire in San Diego Zoo safari was made by the U.S Fish and Wildlife service, an agency whose mission is to conserve and protect wildlife, in order to draw people’s attention on the fact that experts are saying Rhinos could become extinct in 15 years.

In the article “SPCA threatens to end pound services if Montreal bans pit bulls” by Michelle Lalonde a writer of the Montreal Gazette, she discusses how the soon to be implemented law to ban pit bulls is now going to affect the SPCA’s future. The banning of this race forces the SPCA to go against what their purpose is. The SPCA was created with the intentions to protect, care for and to rehabilitate animals who have been neglected and mal treated until they find their forever home.

In his article the author’s position is mixed because she believes that there are good zoos and bad zoos. As she states in the text, animals in zoos should not learn to be entertaining for the public. The role of zoos is to help research and animal conservation. The author believes that animals in zoos should not be kept in cages and entertaining for the public.
