This fall semester, I will be teaching a class on Writing for Television and Radio. The class has approximately 21 students from the College at Brockport, State University of New York, located in upstate New York. For part of the course, students will be writing news or features stories of interest or social concern to their peers, (traditional college age students). My hope is for the students to see the depth of research and effort involved in writing a balanced - unbiased news or feature story.
I am interested in connecting with an international partner class for students to take part in a global experience. I am open to ideas on how classes can interact. One possible idea could involve my class (or both classes) researching up to three news or feature topics, post summaries on Newsactivist giving enough information to the partnering class so they can vote on the topic that interest most. From there they would write a radio/television script and post for student comments/conversation… Another possibility would be students write the stories and post on the site and the partnering class writes comments, questions, responses, etc. The assignment(s) will be for the second half of the semester so there is time to co-plan.
