Ethics class fall 2014 looking for collaborative partners- contemporary issues/difficult problems to solve
English

Hi, I have 38 students in a first-year University introductory course on ethics who will be using this site to post news summaries about problems in the world that are difficult to solve while noting ethical principles that underlie differing points of view on such problems, as well as the principles at play in presentations of different possible solutions. They will also be required to look around the site for inspiration and context and will be asked to provide comments on posts, providing ethical context and insight to other students who are writing about contemporary issues on the site. I'd like to plan a few feedback exercises across classes whereby my students would be able to receive timely feedback on their work, and in turn, could be asked to post comments on work submitted by other students to the site. However, I think some of the communication will be sparked naturally as my students may be asked to consider finding collaborative partners from other spots on the globe with whom they can develop strategies for dealing with ethical dilemmas and apparently intractable (or at least difficult) problems on the world. I am up for setting up a few assignments that specifically will take into account what a collaborative class is dealing with, so let me know if something seems to fit for you! Gabe Flacks

My students could read some posts and make comments (opinions) and I could have my students put up some articles as well. I only have 26 students.

Learning to Learn on NewsActivist

Hi Gabe and Gina,

I know this is last second, I've had this new course to deveIop and only just managed to get my deadline sin order. My Learning to Learn course will start this coming week and runs from Oct 15th to Dec 12th. We will be looking at different disciplinary approaches to learning and growth. My students will be responding to posts on NewsActivist during the weeks of Oct 20-24 and Oct 27 to Oct 31. Each week their deadline to reply is by Friday each week. We will be exploring the topics that raise our intellectual curiosity. They will be talking about what drew them to two posts each week and explaining how their social location shapes their response. They will be posting their own work by Nov 14th and Dec 5th at 11:59pm. These posts will be describing some key finding in their research into learning at the college-level.

Let me know if our students can collaborate,
Eric

European Immigration Problems

Hi Gabe
My Japanese students have been working diligently on writing papers about the Immigrants. Their perspectives are unique coming from Japan and its history of closed doors. There are only ten students in the class and they will upload in tomorrow's class (Thursday, November 12th). Would you have your students comment on their postings please. If you have covered this topic we would be happy to comment on your postings.
Thank you so very much,
Tina
