Apple Going Too Far

Each year, millions of people are impatiently waiting for the new Iphone by Apple. And each year, you have the same box you had last year, except some minor changes like a better camera and a better screen resolution. And for how much? Not 200$, not 300$, but 600$! It is up to you to decide if you buy it or not, but I think apple is going too far this year.

For those who didn’t hear about this already, Apple will release 2 Iphones this year. The first one is the 5s, which is the same as a 5 but with some “changes”, and the second one is the 5c, which is a cheaper model of the 5s. This one will have a plastic back rather than a metal one, and will be available in six different colors.

You may think that Apple is nice to have a phone for the ones who can’t afford the “Real” version, but I see this just as a reason to make more money. And that’s the problem with Apple. They put more effort in making money than making their buyers happy. And because they have the name, they can sell anything. They could release the most useless piece of metal, and people would still buy it. Usually, Apple releases one Iphone in 6 months, but this year, they suddenly decided to make two of those. Like always, it comes down to money. I found it sad how here, people are fighting to get the brand new phone on the market, like it was a decision of life or death, and in poor countries, people REALLY choose between life and death. They don’t think about how long they will wait in the line to get the Iphone, they think of what they will do to still alive the next day. I am not telling you to throw away all you have; I am just trying to make you realize that we fight about such meaningless things, that we forget about the real meaning of life.

Here is the link to the article about the new Iphone 5s and Iphone 5c:

I think Apple, as a company, is outrageous. Their products are simply not worth the amount of money they charge for them. As a general rule, supplying the “latest and greatest” products means generating hype around them and encouraging over-consumption of, honestly, very advanced toys.
I understand that running a business means making a profit. However, taking advantage of the public by whipping them into mass hysteria and then selling them a product is wrong, and a symptom of a much larger issue, as is presented in the post. Some people just have too much money to spend. The gap between the rich, who can afford these newest gadgets, and the poor, who don't have access to the basics, is growing within North America. The same goes for social inequality between countries, and buying a new iPhone every six months illustrates this rather well. What does everyone think of that?

You are right, Apple is going too far. Whenever Apple sells a new iPhone, they change the size of the screen for a bigger one. As you mention, the new iPhone 5s comes with a better camera. This is not a drastic change. In the article the author says that the iPhone 5s will have a fingerprint. A fingerprint is a scanner that will be able to identify its owner. Some people will think that the fingerprint is a very good set up. But I think that Apple can do better. In the oldest iPhone’s model, we had to enter code to be able to use the phone. So I think that the fingerprint scanner is not the best and useful change that they can do.

Let’s talk about the other new iPhone. People say that the iPhone 5c will be cheaper than the iPhone 5s because the construction of the phone is made with cheaper material. The back of the iPhone 5c will be in plastic instead of being in metal. Clients will be able to choose one of the 5 colors proposed for their iPhone’s back.
These changes are not what I expected from a company as big as Apple. Finally, I’m disappointed about the new iPhones.

I agree with the fact that releasing 2 phones in only a year is a great way for apple to make even more money. Of course they will make profits out of it but it is also good for their customers. A normal iPhone can be really expensive and most people cannot afford it. The fact that they are releasing another iPhone that does the same thing but is made out of cheaper material is great. It will be less expensive and more people will be able to have an IPhone. It will probably be less expensive than any other smart phones on the market. Basically, they are helping people that used to say it was too expensive to get a smartphone. A consequentialist might be able to help you understand because apple is actually trying to make people happier with smartphones. Phones such as IPhones have always been expensive and most people cannot buy it so they did that to make people happier and pleased of the service offered by their company. They evaluated the outcomes before taking actions and in both ways it was profitable for them and for their customers.
