Physical activity as a solution for anxiety?

In our class of sustainable happiness, Anne-Marie and I proposed a project to our school. This project consists of finding a problematic in our school that involves people who are surrounded by stress situations. After many consultations, teachers and students agreed that we do our project before the evaluation week, known as the end of the semester. This period is mainly characterized by anxiety. Studies reveal that while the end of the semester is approaching, students declared that they have a rise of stress. The main reasons are bad time-management, difficulty to concentrate, a lost of motivation, etc. The number of people diagnosed with anxiety has surpassed a number of people diagnosed with depression. All these data are reported in an article written by Joel Brown published in the BU today, an American newspaper. Also, some researches confirmed our hypothesis, which is that doing sports helped us concentrate and thus, giving us more time. As so, doing sports reduces stress, fatigue and it raises alertness and concentration. One of this study was made by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, or ADAA. This association has a goal of reducing anxiety on a short-term and removed it on a long-term, all this with the benefits of physical activities. In short, we hope that our assignment will provide benefits for our people and that they will appreciate and learn news approaches towards sportive activities.

I think that this article is really relevant to students today because we all go through some sort of stress during the school year. Physical activity can make people forget about their stress and let them focus on something fun and challenging that has no relevance to school. I think this is a really good idea and has benefits that can help students. Although, I feel as if this would be a short term solution more than a long term solution but it can still be very helpful!

I think this proposal is a good idea. As a student, I find myself sometimes stressed out with school and I believe that some group physical activity would help to reduce stress. However, there are many points that should be clarified before proceeding to action. First, how are planning to organize the activities, would it be happen in campus, off campus, during school time or after school. Also, how are you guys planning to attract the audience and promote your activities. Would the school fund your activities or there would be an entrance fees. Overall I believe the project would be viable as long you guys looks in the details

I like your project idea and how you thought about a effective time for it to take place. While you explain what stress is and how it effects us, I'm not sure what your project is. Maybe develop a better plan in order to have a clear idea of what you'll be doing and this will give you an opportunity to have a bigger impact. I believe that this project could have very positive impacts on students' mental health. Personally, I think physical activity does contribute to happiness. However, the project is not very well explained. I get the goal of it, but it does not say how it will be achieved. More informations like the timeline of the project and the division of the tasks should be cited. Moreover, we do not know the cost or the revenues of it.

I really like the concept of this project. Stress is present in a student's day-to-day life and finding something to reduce it could be really beneficial. I would like to know how will you implement this in a college. Are you gonna organize an event each week? These kind of stress relieving sports have to be done in a regular interval to have some effect. Do you have something to actually prove better scholar results in relation with sports?

I’m not really sure I understand the purpose of your project… Are you writing an essay on how sports help anxiety, are you helping students reduce their stress load, or are you trying to make students release their stress through sports by hosting sport activities during the week of finals? I think setting a goal for your project would help make it a lot clearer.
I believe you should also state the difference between anxiety and stress as they are different things. Anxiety is a reoccurring condition that has negative effects on our physiological health and wellness. On the other hand, stress is not only bad. There is a good stress that exits, like butterflies in the stomach when you’re with someone you like, or being stressed before a competition. Stress can help improve performance in some cases.
I think that you should focus on advertising your project to people in your school in order to have an impact. In my opinion writing an essay might not be the most effective way to make people realize that sports help reduce anxiety/stress. I think if you were to host activities were students would have a chance to participate it would have a greater impact because it could give them a chance to decompress and forget about their exams, as an essay could be seen negatively because it would be just another thing that they would have to read.

I thought that this was very well put together and it is a subject that a lot of athletic students can relate to, especially myself. I think that the details were well put in and I agree that sports do relieve stress for myself when I play soccer.

I completely agree with you guys and your idea, physical education is the best "medication" to counter anxiety. I myself am pretty stressful because of school and or other things in my life. To counter this i got a membership to the gym and it helped me manage my stress. I believe this is an amazing project because it will motivate people to run outside and do physical activities instead of taking anxiety pills, which are extremely common now a days. However, what is your project? Are you guys going to do posters that inform people that physical activity helps reduce stress, have a speech? I believe you guys have the perfect audience, teenagers because our days are filled with anxiety and stress but, you guys should be more precise on how you will inform your audience about physical activity and anxiety.

I love your subject. Mental problems such as depression and anxiety are becoming major these days and are more often than not passing well under the radar. People with mental health issue are often not talking about it but they need solutions. I'm glad you approach this topic since it's a bit taboo these days. I personally believe a lot in the benefits of physical activity and I think more people should. It's great that you guys want to promote it and make people realize what you realized. this is such a great project idea because its so true that our stress level rise. teacher are giving so many assignments and projects before the end of term. I have 5 essays, 2 projects and an oral and idk how many test. so its just so difficult to manage time because you always want to give your best effort and with this many assignments I dont think some people will be able too. so I find that doing something that would relieve our stress would be really helpful.

For me, during the end of the semester I felt very anxious and I would love to have this kind of project in my school. I think you are on a great start. Stress is indeed a big part of student quotidian. However, I think you should distinguish stress and anxiety, which is not totally the same thing. Thus, I suggested that you focus more on stress rather than anxiety, because it is not everyone who have it and will not related to your project. Also, in what form are you going to presented this project? I suggest that you do some workshop, where you can inform people on stress and how to handle it. Also, you should maybe do some distress activities at school. By creating public activities, your project will have a larger impact on campus, will raise awareness and promote a healthier way of living.

I can relate to this problematic and mostly this solution because I regularly play sports and I am truly the living proof of your theory. If I have a week where I have a lot of homework and exams and I do no or very little sports I will panic and become very nervous for every little thing I wouldn't be usually. I know a lot of people who skip sports to study or do homework but personally I know that I am a lot more concentrated and productive when I have done sports or any other physical activity, even if it is just a simple walk around the block.
