Trustworthy NBC news, or is it? Zimmerman’s case.

by Alexandre on January 31, 2017 - 11:00am

The Zimmerman 911 tape made it big in the news and the internet. Its reason is shocking. The trust worthy NBC news has posted a fake tape demonstrating how racist Zimmerman was towards the victim. Here is a segment of the fake tape showed by the program and “said” by Zimmerman:

“He looks like he’s up to no good, he looks black.”

In reality, Zimmerman was not being racist towards the victim. He was only being careful and answered the dispatcher’s question. This is the real segment recorded:

Zimmerman: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.”

Dispatcher: “OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?”

            Zimmerman: “He looks black.”

NBC has shared that the producer has been fired, but no name was given. They have as well posted an apology towards the viewers as their investigations became clear that indeed, the production was fake.

“During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret. We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers.”

While the apology shows that NBC acknowledges their mistake, they did not directly apologies towards Zimmerman. Apologies are hard, but they are best if done in person.

The article I was summarizing was credible, because at least 5 news program has been talking about the subject: Fox news, The Washington Post, National Review, CNN, Mediaite, etc. The article that I chose was: “NBC issues apology on Zimmerman tape screw-up” by Erik Wemple, April 3, 2012. It can be found in The Washington Post:

Hi first i would say that your article is written in way that is really easy to understand and read. When writing news summary its is really important to be as clear and concise, you succeed to do so. However, it would really nice if you could give background on the case that your writing about. You could add more context about the Zimmerman case and how it affected the U.S when it happen. Furthermore your us of quote could be a less prominent in the text. Overall this article is really well written and should definitely. Here is a dossier about the case:

I liked your title, as it is to the point and indicates exactly what the content of your post will be about. Also, I found it particularly interesting that you included quotes. It increases the credibility of your article and the information you are summarizing. Nonetheless, your article was relatively short, and it would have been interesting to give more information on the matter. I learned about this situation through your article, but I was left wanting more background information on the Zimmerman case, as I don’t know what this case is about. Finally, it is a good and interesting article, and including more context in the beginning of your text would only strengthen it.

Your article is very well written. It is very clear and easy to understand. I loved your title, it really stood out when I saw it and it got me very curious. A problem that I have with your post is that there’s no background information on Zimmerman case or the effects that it had. Next time try to provide a little more information about your topic so that the readers understand what it going on. I like how you included quotes into your post but they could have been integrated better. Next time try to integrate them into your sentences and not just shove them in like you did. Other than that I find that your post was very well done.

The title of your piece attracted me to read your post because it is an event that affected society greatly during its trial. I noticed that your post doesn’t go into any detail about Zimmerman, by adding this to your post; your readers would get a sense of who he is and why this case turned the way it did. By introducing quotes from the original article, the information you wrote about suggested that it was from a reliable source. Other than this mishap, the article was very well written and easy to comprehend. The article was very interesting to read!

Hi Alexandre, I’d like to say that your article made me learn some new things that I didn’t know before. I guess that I was a victim of these fake news. Your explanation of the facts is clear and straight to the point. I liked that you included the actual conversation between Zimmerman and the police instead of simply summarizing the facts. Here is an interesting article by A. J. DELGADO posted on June 27, 2014, 8:04 AM who explain why NBC news owes Gorges Zimmerman money compensation for their mistake or “fake news”.
