The Latest Gag Trump Played On Women

by jasminecl on January 30, 2017 - 1:07am

Since business-man Donald Trump joined the race as a candidate to become the 45th President of the United States, many considered his promises and speeches as a practical joke, but the majority of the country thought he seemed like the obvious choice, even though his choices are not always to the best interest of the population…

As Jina Moore has explained in her Buzzfeed News article Here’s How Trump’s Anti-Abortion Rule Will Affect Women Worldwide published on January 23rd 2017, Trump just a few days ago re-instated the “global gag rule”, which has been first instituted in 1984 during Ronald Reagan’s mandate. This rule prevents foreign organizations from receiving US dollar money which helped these organizations talk about and provide abortion and information about it to women in need all around the world.

The reinstatement of the global gag rule could bring up the number of maternal or infantile death, as well as the rate of women needing help because of the damage caused by unsafe abortion, per Marie Stopes International (MSI), a favored family planning organization.

Even though used by several presidents before Trump, it is to this day an outdated policy.

It is a real setback from all the progress that was made during Obama’s two mandates for the past eight years and influential international organizations such MSI (Marie Stopes International) and IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation) will be highly affected by this new policy, but the ones who will mostly be affected will be the women and the girls needing access to contraceptive and information about these types of services..This new rule will have a negative impact on the disease rate in third-world countries and create shortages of budget and staff in clinics.

People around the world running alongside women affected by this unfair loss of civil rights can and should simply transmit information to one another about the risks of not using protection, as well as the importance of contraception could help preventing unsafe abortions.

The information used from this source is mostly reliable because of the credibility Buzzfeed News has on the Internet and through social media, but also because the author of this article, Jina Moore, is the Global women’s rights correspondent for Buzzfeed, which is the central topic of the article. Besides, Jina Moore is a well-known reporter, being a writer for many popular news sources such as Al-Jazera America and The Boston Globe.

Great writing, I've heard about this and I do not agree with what Trump is doing, I think it's disgusting and it really doesn't respect these women.

Great post! The format and language made it clear, concise and interesting to read! I think that to make this post even better i would have loved to see a link to the original Buzzfeed post. Considering that Buzzfeed is pretty mainstream in terms of media outlets, what would have helped your post even more would have been to find some additional sources to support your point. I found some great articles here that talk about trump's gag rule, maybe you'd be interested in looking into them. http://www.vox.com/identities/2017/1/23/14356582/trump-global-gag-rule-a...
