Writing for the Community

About this class

This course will require students to think and write about the notion of community. What are the needs of a given community? What organizations are making a difference, and what work has yet to be done? How can an individual get involved in a meaningful way? Through our readings, we will explore relevant topics such as urban alienation, citizen engagement, online communities, and the role of the caregiver in the community. Students will consider how to apply their critical thinking, research and composition skills outside of the classroom, in the realm of their own chosen communities. In their final projects, students will write about community causes or projects that they consider important.
