Summary: The organ market is a very controversial subject. Some agree on leaving the market open to those who wish to donate an organ, and some totally disagree because it could increase the demand on the black market. In the article, we can read that three years ago in India, the police broke down the traffic of not less than 500 kidneys taken from some less fortunate patients without their consent. This type of black market represents 20 percent of all the transplant operations worldwide.

Nobody needs a gun, let alone a semi-automatic killing machine. Yet in the US alone, millions of these firearms are being casually passed around as if they were nothing more than expensive toys. How is a law abiding citizen supposed to feel safe in a country where anyone can set up a date in a parking lot and load up on military grade weaponry? Gun lovers will argue that a car can kill a human being just as easily as a firearm, while conveniently ignoring the fact that a car's main purpose isn't to murder people.

This article about doping showcases the Lance Armstrong scandal. The man, who was considered the best cyclist in the world, now faces lifetime bans from the sport, many very impressive fines as well as being stripped of his seven Tour de France titles. This scandal made it around the world fairly quickly and has been the subject of many articles on different media supports. Although Lance Armstrong denied the allegations as many times and as long as it was possible, he was facing shame and disgrace by just about everyone, not only the entourage in his sport.

The issue on overpaid athletes has been a popular discussion topic over the past few years. I will state both the pros and cons concerning the issue. The cons are filled with facts that prove the excessive salary that certain athletes receive every year. For example, the lowest paid Cubs player in 2012 made 417,000$. In other words, the highest paid doctor makes the same salary as the lowest paid baseball player. Also, several football players are paid around $20 million annually. Everyone`s first reaction would be complaining and stating how unfair it is.

In the United-States. fifty states have legalized their minimum drinking age to 21. However, some states have set exceptions (eight) that allow underage drinking. It could either be because there is a parental consent, a religious purpose or even for an educational purpose. People who are pro-lowering the minimum legal age explain that it doesn't stop teens from drinking since they do it privately and the damage is greater. While the opponents argue that teens are not mature enough to handle the alcohol responsibly. They say it would be likely to increase injuries.

After playing video games, a boy killed a 90 year old relative by shooting a bullet in her head. The authorities said the child was playing a particularly violent video game named Grand Theft Auto IV. That video game is about some people wandering in a city, committing crimes and killing people and is rated M from the ESRB standing for “mature audiences” which means about 17 years and up. The boy found a gun in the house after playing that game and shot down the lady while she was watching television.

A lot of children experience bullying as they grow up. That can even start at preschool and continue until highschool. Most of the time, people that are bullied have a low self-esteem and they have difficulties to interact with other people. Moreover, they suffer from many physical and psychological consequences. For example, children's grades often drop and they are scared to go to school every day because mayver someone will hurt them. Also, people who are victims of bullying can be affected by those difficult experiences all their lives.

A two week study was made on the possible consequences that Facebook has on a young adult's well-being and they discovered that it has negatives effects on them. The volunteers received 5 surveys a day that were asking questions about how they feel at this moment, how much they used Facebook and interacted directly with people since the last survey. They established that people spend more time on Facebook when they felt lonely, the more they use it, the worse they feel afterward and the more they use it, the less you are satisfied with their life.

Bouncing balls are great, I wish we replaced all the chairs of this world with bouncing balls. Awesome for the back too, and they are fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!

I found your topic very interesting since I am also a girl and women’s rights is an issue in which I strongly believe in. It is regrettable to know that the participation rate of women in politics, even if it has risen in the last couple of years, it is still very low, especially when it comes to high-leading positions. Given that China is a major player in the capitalist economy as well as in world politics, it is important that women should be seriously taken in consideration. I personally believe that if there were more women in politic the world would be a better place. Usually, people say that women often get confused with their emotions and that is why they shouldn’t be trusted with decisions. I, however, am of the opinion that a more human and sentimental touch in taking decisions; our world would not be ruled by pure economic and power-related interests.

I understand your point. Some pitchers have their little ‘’ritual’’ before they throw the ball. Though I do not think they want to end their career because of those little rituals. I must admit that sport isn’t my field of expertise. Hockey player used to play without wearing any protective gears. Unfortunate incident had to happen before they decided to make helmet mandatory. I believe it would be safer to make pitcher wear helmet. Obviously it would take times for old player to get used to it but at least it would keep them from brutally end their career.

I strongly agree with what Marie is saying. In Quebec we are very privileged to have an abundance of water, and we don’t seem to realize this. We should be much more careful with the way we use water, and we should also think about the people that aren’t as privileged as us.

I think that Marie is totally right. In the west side of our planet, many poeple don't have the chance to enjoy the benefits of safe water because they simply don't have access to it. Here in Quebec, we don't even realize how water is precious because we are surrounded by it. Everyday, we use water as if it was unlimitited. I think that people like us, who can drink water as much as we want and take at least one shower everyday, should become aware of how they are lucky to get the benefits of a that ressource and make effort to enjoy it without wasting it.

Reply to: Sleep vs. College
4 years 9 months ago

Sleep is essential to our learning abilities. Looking at our classmates and ourselves it is easy to understand why it can be difficult to get enough sleep. We’ve all procrastinated at least once in our student life to finish our homework. The only reason to why we do not get enough sleep is how we manage our time, it is also the solution.

This issue really outrages me. I find it inconceivable that women at such a young age get married with men who are probably more than twice their age. I am well aware that it is a cultural aspect in Yemen and that their religion greatly influences their behavior and I have respect for people practicing their religion. However, when the practices go against the common sense and not only the girls’ well-being but the well-being of the whole country, I believe that international organizations should immediately intervene. People from the occident should go to these places and educate girls; I would be the first one to go

Reply to: Sleep vs. College

Reading your article really opens my eyes. I never really thought about it, but it really is when I lack of sleep that I am not as productive as I could be. I should really force myself to sleep more because after reading your article, I think that it could, somehow, help me focus more during my work and be more productive. I spend so much time procrastinating and am a very slow writer and student in general. I read slowly, write slowly and it affected my grades more than once. I never really considered sleep as something necessary for my success, but the more I think about it, the more I tell myself that I might not be using as much energy and brain activity on my work as I could. Naps will now definitely be a part of my agenda and I will organize myself to sleep earlier. Now that I know the source of all my problems, I cannot stay passive about it. Thank you so much !

The light from cellphones and computers isn't really good for your eyes either. Furthermore, if you use your cellphone before sleeping, ithe light actually makes your brain think that it is sunlight and it affects your sleeping habits. It is, indeed, not a good thing to have such technology in our bedroom.
But, I don't think they should stop people from using their cellphone in their bedroom, because some people are only using them for listenning to music or to communicate with other people. I therefore think that we shouldn't abolish the use of cellphone, but we should control it.

Time is by far the hardest thing to manage at the college level. It isn’t always easy to find time to do all of your assignments, especially when they’re all due at the same time. I think the key to success is being able to manage their time. To be structured, organized and to be able to avoid distractions is the key to good grades.
