Neil Young is a famous singer-songwriter who is on a quest to help the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nations people. His Canadian tour "Honor the Treaties" aims to raise awareness of and money for the legal struggle against expansion of tar sands extraction in Alberta. The Athabasca oil sands have a negative effect on the environment. It violates the treaties protecting the First Nation people and finally it supports harmful behaviours.

Neil Young’s “Honour The Treaties” tour is a tour intended to raise money for a legal fund for the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) people near Fort McMurray Alberta. This tour was a call for action against the Athabasca oil sands or Athabasca tar sands in Alberta. The sands are the largest deposit of bitumen in the word producing a staggering 1.3 million barrels a day. Neil Young’s tour was a medium through which the public could see the environmental affects, the effects on the aboriginal peoples of the area as well as social services in the region.

The  Honour the Treaties Tour performed by Neil Young used the latter's popularity to put light on a poor situation in Alberta. The tour, and Neil Young, go against different aspects of the Albertan life going against treaties that were made with the native communities who lives there. It, further, involves a campaign against pollution. The oil sands, the main actor not respecting treaties with the Native communities, are less profitable than many people think. As a result, I agree with the use of the tour to advocate honouring the treaties.

The Athabasca oil sands are located in the northeastern part of Albert, roughly situated in the center of Fort McMurray. The Athabasca deposit is the largest known reservoir of crude bitumen in the world. The construction of this deposit will have very devastating impacts on the homelands of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nations (ACFN). Neil Young did a tour called the “Honour the Treaties Tour” which was set to raise awareness for the impacts on the lives of these first nations.
