Smoking in public places

Smoking has been one of the big social problems. It is said smoking is bad for the health because it causes some diseases. According to WHO, over 1.1 billion people in the world smoked tobaccos in 2015, and smoking in public places is regulated recent year. In my opinion, regulation of smoking in public places is a desirable idea because I think that smoking makes many people unpleasant. So, I will tell you why smoking in public places is not good.
It goes without saying smoking has unhealthy effects to human body. Smoking causes some diseases such as lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, and so on. Moreover, according to the research of JPHC Study (2002), the death rate of smokers is higher than that of non-smokers’. In addition, tobaccos have second-hand smoke, and it is harmful. If people get passive smoking, they are likely to get sick. Also, according to a medical journal of England (1981), if there is a smoker in the house, the death rate of the resident, who is a non-smoker, becomes twice as high. From these things, I think it is better to ban smoking in public places because non-smokers also have some health hazards.
Besides these unhealthy effects, smoking causes some environmental problems. For example, global warming and air pollution. The reasons why environmental problems are caused by smoking are greenhouse gas, many trees cut to make tobaccos, and the smoke lead to air pollution (Green Planet, 2015). Moreover, some smokers throw away tobaccos on the street, which make streets dirty, and has risk of fire disaster. Accordingly, I think that smokers should stop smoking outside. In addition, many non-smokers feel offensive by smell of tobaccos, and actually, I am one of them. Recently, an electronic tobacco which doesn’t give out smoke was developed, so I want them to use it.
In conclusion, I’m opposed to smoking in the public place, but smoking also has some positive effects to smokers. For example, smoking makes smokers relax, and they can reduce their stress and uneasiness. In fact, tobacco includes nicotine, and it has effects which make human relax. However, I think that smoking has negative effects more than positive ones. Therefore, I want the government to ban smoking in public places and separate a smoking area from a non-smoking area. I think that smokers should go to places designated to smoke freely. Also, I hope that Japan becomes a comfortable society for smokers and non-smokers.
