 I introduce about “Kozmoz”.

Kozmoz is a name of volunteer activity.

According to Kozmoz’s website, they say that “hough we engage in a wide variety of activities our focus is clear and unchanging. We were founded in 1987 with the goal of sharing the wealth of the developed nations like America with their underprivileged neighbors. We believe that those of us fortunate enough to have been born in the first world have a responsibility to support those in need as we may ourselves be in need some day. We believe that we are our brothers keeper and this is what separates us from most of the animal kingdom. We are apolitical and though our roots are Christian, our goal is to include people of all political backgrounds and faiths who share our hope for a better future.”

I wonder why the people that in the world is divided into a poor people and people who can have an ordinary lifestyle. I think this is unfair because the people does not hope to become poor. So I think this volunteer activity is a very good idea.

When I was high school student, I often joined volunteer activity because I was a student of the welfare department. Therefore, I didn’t join the volunteer activity that help poor peoples. I usually joined clean volunteer and physically challenged people’s athletic meet. That’s why I want to join the volunteer activity, which helps poor peoples.

However, I thought that there were not poor people in Japan. I thought that there was not money to buy rice, and there was the person who almost died only in the developing countries. But I think carefully, the people who losing job and cannot finding new work disappears, are becoming homeless. So it may not be said that poor people only live in developing countries. Kozmoz is active in Japan that name is Kansai food bank.

I introduce about Kansai food bank.

According to Kansai food bank’ page, they speak follows.

“The American charity Kozmoz International has been working to promote Social Ecology in Japan since 1987. One of the projects here that we believed could make a substantial difference was Second Harvest Japan in Tokyo, and we worked hard to see it become a part of the Japanese social landscape since the year 2000. The needs in Kansai are great as well Kozmoz Japan founded Second Harvest Kansai Food Bank in 2004.”

Since its founding in 2004, Kozmoz Second Harvest Kansai has sponsored food drives, and educational seminars to bring awareness of the problems of poverty and a lack of food security throughout the Kansai area. Kozmoz also sponsors food kitchens and delivers needed food products to orphanages, support centers for disabled people, churches, homeless care centers and families at public housing throughout Kansai. Kozmoz changed it's name to Kozmoz Food Bank Kansai in 2007.

Of course Kozmoz also responds to natural disasters such as the Great Northeastern Earthquake of 2011. Within hours of learning of the disaster, Kozmoz was gathering supplies and staff, outfitting trucks, and making plans to aid in relief and reconstruction. For months, Kozmoz sent supply trucks and volunteers into the disaster zone to provide relief to the stricken and support the many workers on site. Now Kozmoz works to sponsor families from the area who wish to relocate to Kansai because of the loss of their homes or due to fear of raising families in the uncertainty of the radiation resulting from the Fukushima Daiichi Reactor Failure.

Kozmoz solicits food donations from supermarkets, warehouses, manufacturers and individuals through food drives. Currently, we distribute approximately 10 tons of food stuffs weekly and with the addition of our new sorting center in south Kyoto should be able to double that amount in 2014 with the help of our dedicated volunteer staff.

Did you understand what the Kansai food bank is?

I think if volunteer organizations will be multiplied, many poor people can survive their life.

That’s why I hope volunteer organization multiply in our future and I hope many people join the volunteer activity too.

I think that volunteer activity can get rid of the difference of the poverty and wealth.

So I want to participate in such a volunteer activity from now.

Great work! To be honest, I really enjoyed reading your post. It was nicely written and very well explained. I can relate to this because I, myself, I recently volunteered at an organization and their mission is to help the poor people by offering food, shelter and personal development services. I agree it is very important to volunteer and help the ones who are in need. Good job, continue with the great work! I like your involvement!
