Nowadays, we live in a world where we depend mostly on cars to answer our need to move. As vehicles became more available, our roads became full of inefficient cars. A typical car usually has 5 seats, but it is unfortunate that most of the time there is only one passenger in each car. Consequently, our highways are more packed than ever which has multiple impacts on the environment and the people. This issue brings a fundamental question: How can we be more efficient in the way we move? One major solution is to do carpooling.
First of all, we are going to explain what is the difference between carpooling and car sharing and we will talk about the advantages of carpooling. People often think that carpooling is the same thing as car sharing. However, there is some difference between the two. The main difference is that when you practice carpooling, the driving is also shared. In our society, people are more stressed than ever. One of the main cause is driving during peak hour. Therefore, it is more advantageous to do carpooling because it is not always the same driver. Ro Moreover, there are multiple other advantages that people don’t necessarily know. Second of all, less car on our roads means less pressure on the environment since less greenhouse gas emissions are produced. Indeed, according to the United State Environmental Protection Agency, the transportation sector accounted for 27% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in 2015. Third of all, carpooling is a simple, but efficient way to save money. Think of it, while every morning most of the people in our society go to work alone in the cars, there are people who agreed to share the cost of a car together. Both cars will reach their destination. However, there is one driver that pay at least the double of the cost for the same final result. Fourth of all, carpooling can bring people together. This is more of a plus for the people driving to a destination since they are not alone and they can communicate with each other. Having a better environment when driving can have a positive outcome on people going to work since it can make them more joyful. Also, not driving to work can release stress in a person since they can relax and already get concentrated for what will await them at work. Thus, carpooling is clearly an advantage for our community.
In conclusion, having arrangements between colleagues, friends and roommates can be a major solution to the problem. We can manage a plan to reduce traffic, save money and have a safer surrounding, for the environment and consequently for us. Therefore, the idea of carpooling presents some very interesting and positive points that can really help our society and our environment and prevent the consequences of the major problem that is the greenhouse effect.
